Newsletter for:
August 2009
Dear Friends:
July was a VERY busy month - like a blur actually - for us here at Steering Wheel Ministries and August will be busy as well. It looks like we may be able to slow down and take a quick breath in September. Debbie and I have not had any time, or money, to get any camping yet this summer and we REALLY NEED IT! Please pray that we can squeeze that in - about a week and a half would be good.
July 18 was our Trucker's Afternoon Of Jubilee at the Pilot truck stop in Chemult, OR on Hwy 97. A member in the only church in the area, owns a mobile Coney Island Hot Dog stand and they brought it over and served free hot dogs which gave us a "food court" of sorts. Others in the church brought other food so besides the hot dogs we had the hamburgers we normally serve along with the potato salad, homemade baked beans, chocolate cake and watermelon church members brought. I really love going over to Chemult because the people, including the pastor David and his wife Vicki, really get behind this ministry there. They don't have any money but they have a lot of love for the Lord and a burden for souls to be saved so they TAKE and MAKE the time to get out there and serve the Lord any way they can. This makes the work SO MUCH EASIER especially when it comes to set up and take down. A couple of the ladies got in and helped Debbie with the serving. I tried to keep up with grilling the hamburgers, taking pictures and talking with the people who came by - Idid get behind in taking pictures. Throughout the day Chaplain Doug and I took gift bags to the drivers and invited them to come over. We gave out 30 of these bags. The bags contained a Gospel CD and a few booklets.
We served several more people there in July than we did at Rice Hill in June and the truck stop in Chemult is several times smaller than the Pilot at Rice Hill. Of the Trucker's Afternoon Of Jubilees we keep serving more each time. People are hungry for God's Word and when we serve them free physical food along with Spiritual food from God's Word they get well fed in every way.

These outreaches cost a lot of money and they come at the lowest time of the year financially for any ministry. It is because of your generosity to the Lord's work that we have been able to keep up with being out here reaching truck drivers and anyone else we can reach for the Lord Jesus Christ. As you may know, June left us just shy of a full $2,000 short of being able to pay all of our bills. July was short but not quite as short and at this writing, the first of August, we have not "crunched" the numbers yet for July. As always, thank you for standing with us in prayer and financially and the drivers thank you too.
In Christ's service,
